I was recently afforded the luxury of asking Tavis Smiley a question I’m still searching for the answer to myself.
Nova Giovanni: Do You believe it is possible to eliminate poverty under a capitalist system? If so, how? If not, what do you see as the solution?
Tavis Smiley: Yes. A Bible verse says, “The Poor, ye will have with you always”. Therefore, poor people will always exist. However, that doesn’t alleviate our responsibility to trying to end poverty. In order to end poverty we must first make it a priority. Then, there must be a plan. Finally, the plan must be presented to the American people. The Three Ps.
After this 30 minute call, I was left with a sense of hope and also with a feeling of responsibility. We all have the duty of using our individual platforms to get politicians to address the issues we currently face.
Are you ready to repave America?
